TL;DR on Gadget

Gadget is a ranged Caster who uses her trusty bots to control and deny large areas.

Focus on buying cards that increase your Energy Damage and Mana.

Early game, use your Sticky Mine to harass the enemy. Seek & Destroy can be thrown out
and reactivated to damage enemies at longer ranges and slow them down.

Mid-game Gadget becomes a monster at pushing objectives. Speed Gate can be used to speed up
you and your minions to get to towers much faster. It can also be used to escape.

Gadget's Ultimate, Tesla Dome, can be used to deny a huge area. When engaging teamfights, drop your Ultimate in the middle of the enemy team and they'll have to split up, allowing your team to pick off targets.

Gadget Overview

Gadget's Strengths

  1. Strong lane pusher
  2. One of the most effective battlefield controlling Heroes with lot of AOE abilities.

Gadget's Weaknesses

  1. Weak on open areas where her abilities can be dodged.
  2. Mana-hungry

Gadget's Abilities Analysis

- Plasma Blast (Basic Attack)

Gadget fires a medium damage plasma blast from her gauntlet dealing Basic Damage.

  • Base damage is 53 and increases by 1.6 each Hero level up to 75.4 at level 15.
  • Attack speed remains flat with Hero level.
  • Ability Card scaling factor is 30%.

Small scaling factor which is pretty expected for a caster. Do not expect dealing much damage by your Basic Attacks, especially in late game. However during early laning phase it still hurts and can be used for poking your opponent.

- Seek & Destroy (Alternate Ability)

Gadget deploys an airborne bot projectile that can be reactivated to stop in place and begin dealing Ability Damage over 3 seconds to enemies in range, while applying Slow.

  • Base damage is 75 and increases by 60 each ability level up to 255 at level 4.
  • Ability duration remains constant 3 seconds at all ability levels.
  • Base slow effect is 180 and increases by 70 each ability level up to 390 at level 4.
  • Cooldown remains constant 10 seconds at all ability levels.
  • Base cost is 80 Mana and increases by 20 each ability level up to 140 Mana at level 4.

Seek & Destroy is a good tool to zone enemies on narrow points of the map (especially in the Jungle). It also works well to prevent a chase by an enemy or vise versa to prevent them from escape. And of course Seek & Destroy can be used as a combo with Tesla Dome or any other AOE ability (like Make It Rain from Howitzer or Gideon's Black Hole) to keep them in range longer and receive more damage.

This ability has an extremely long range meaning the bot can travel very far away prior to "stop in place and begin dealing Ability Damage". This makes it very versatile to be used not only for map control as mentioned above but also for:

  • wave clear from far away
  • stealing a River Buff (or actually any other buff) being attacked by an opponent
  • destroying enemy shadow wards
  • and so on.

Note: you can't drain Amber Link with Seek & Destroy

Since Seek & Destroy applies Slow you can use it for peeling for yourself or your ally by putting it right in front of a chasing enemy.

How to aim with Seek & Destroy? Aim to the ground where you want the center of the bot to stop above. Changed your mind? Re-activate the ability to stop the bot right away.

- Sticky Mine (Primary Ability)

Gadget launches a mine projectile that will attach to any unit within the area (enemies are prioritized). After 2.5 seconds, the mine explodes, dealing Ability Damage.

  • Base damage is 100 and increases by 60 each ability level up to 280 at level 4.
  • Cooldown remains constant 8 seconds at all ability levels.
  • Base cost is 100 Mana and increases by 20 each ability level up to 160 Mana at level 4.
  • Ability Card scaling factor is 125%.

Damage is applied in a small area around the target so it will most probably cause enemy Heroes to re-position themselves.

Sticky Mine is a projectile

Sticky Mine works like a projectile before attaching to its target. Therefore you should keep in mind that Steel will block it with his Force Shield, Dekker will do the same with her Containment Fence and Yin can Backlash it.

Sticky Mine is a very impactful area control tool. It has a pretty long range so that you can harass opponents behind their tower while being outside of that tower's range, you can reach opponents on the ledges on the Safe or Mid lanes. Obviously wave clear is another option but keep in mind Mana costs. Sticky Mine is very expensive. When maxed out it is more expensive than your Ultimate.

Late game it deals a devastating burst of damage and can be even more impactful than any other your ability. Using it keep in mind that it gives due to the built-in timer the ability gives your enemy an opportunity to react.

  1. Use an ability to completely ignore the damage. E.g. Countess can do Shadow Slip right before the explosion, Serath can similarly do her Heaven’s Fury and Aurora can create a Frozen Simulacrum so that Sticky Mine will have a chance to apply to it instead of her. Not even talking about GRIM.exe with his Deflector Shield.
  2. Apply an instant heal with something like Quenching Scales or a Shield from cards or Muriel abilities.
  3. Go all-in giving you a burst of damage prior to being killed by the mine.

- Speed Gate (Secondary Ability)

Gadget deploys a gate that gives allies a Speed boost for a short period of time and deals Ability Damage to enemies inside of it. Speed boost decays over the effect duration.

  • Base damage is 50 and increases by 40 each ability level up to 170 at level 4.
  • Movement Speed buff remains constant 200 at all ability levels.
  • Ability duration remains constant 2.5 seconds at all ability levels.
  • Base cooldown is 22 seconds and decreases by 4 each ability level down to 10 seconds at level 4.
  • Cost remains constant 40 Mana at all ability levels.
  • Ability Card scaling factor is 62.5%.

An ability for limited usage.

  • Hurry up your minions
  • Boost your teammates for an engage
  • Help them or yourself to disengage

Nothing more to say.

- Tesla Dome (Ultimate Ability)

Gadget's Tesla Dome applies 5 ticks of damage over 4 seconds to all enemies in the area dealing Ability Damage and slowing them for 0.25 seconds per tick. After each tick, the damage is increased by 75%.

  • Base damage is 375 and increases by 200 each ability level up to 775 at level 3.
  • Ability duration remains constant 4 seconds at all ability levels.
  • Slow effect remains constant 350 at all ability levels.
  • Base cost is 100 Mana and increases by 25 each ability level up to 150 Mana at level 3.
  • Base cooldown is 110 seconds and decreases by 15 each ability level down to 80 seconds at level 3.
  • Ability Card scaling factor is 312.5%.

Here is how damage application works:

  • Damage scales over time, starting off smaller and ramping higher.
  • Damage increases by 75% for each tick.
  • The final tick hits very hard!
  • Damage from Tesla Dome now applies a micro slow.

A great ability for massive AOE damage. Can be used directly to hurt your opponents or to block an area for re-position or for supporting a structure siege. during mid game can be applied to quickly evaporate an enemy wave of minions to schedule a push towards an enemy tower.

Gameplay with Gadget

Early Game

Gadget's place is Mid. She does not have enough sustain to do solo Off-Lane and unlike Howitzer she does not have proper tool-set to be dangerous in range of her Right Tower. Neither she has any potential in the Jungle not even talking about the Safe Lane.

So early game focus on laning and controlling the River Buff. Ideally you will want to freeze minion wave in the middle and push it right before the buffs appear. If you do so you might have time to rotate to any of the side Lanes and return back prior to putting your Mid Tower under siege.

Watch for ganks from your left side since enemy jungler can sneak there and stub you from behind.

Mid Game

Hopefully the Enemy Mid Tower is down before your's. In this case you may choose to switch to the Off-Lane. Otherwise your main job will be to ensure T2 tower is not in danger and T1 opponent's Tower is finally down.

Try harassing enemy ADCs with your Mines from the distance during the team fight do never get to the front-line. Your main job is to zone (Seek & Destroy) and deal damage from the distance. When you see opponents committing to focus someone, drop your Tesla Dome.

Late Game

Pretty much same as Mid Game. You may want to go from lane to lane to ensure constant pressure on enemy is in effect. Even some jungling is OK but keep your Mana pool in a good shape.

Remember you have no escape which is truly reliable. Speed Gate is good but in most situations is not enough. However it is a good tool to help your team initiate or escape. Do not forget it.

Tips and Tricks with Gadget

  • Try initiating Seek & Destroy and Sticky Mine when enemy has less opportunity to see you. E.g. when you are stanging behind the minions or enemy heroes are looking into a different direction. This way you increase chances to hit harder and avoid possible dodge.

Heroes Synergy

Gadget synergy with Kwang Gadget and Kwang

Tethered Dome

Gadget can do a ton of damage with her Ultimate Tesla Dome. The only thing she needs is to keep enemies inside that area of effect and Kwang can easily do so with a successful Judgement of the Heavens. Since Gadget has nearly no wind up time prior to casting her Ultimate it works much better than Howitzer's Make it Rain.
