The Basics of New Basic Attack
Kevin Abbott - Systems Designer @ Epic Games talks about basic attack rework in .27
Some key ideas from here:
basic attack made up such a large portion of total damage done during a game, that we wanted to revisit the concept of leveling basic attack as well as abilities on the whole.
When a Ranger reached a new level of their basic attack attack, they would gain a huge portion of damage. We were seeing players prioritize solo lanes or experience with their Ranger heroes in order to reach those vitally important levels of basic attack.
we’ve made the card scaling of the basic attack constant, it no longer increases with experience gain. Rangers gain a small amount of base damage per level, but the majority of their power will come from their naturally high card scaling.
Now:
Ranger
- High card scalar.
- Low base damage.
- Gain relatively high amount of base damage per level.
Fighters
- Medium card scalar.
- High base damage.
- Gain a small amount of base damage per level.
Casters
- Low card scalar.
- Low base damage.
- Gain a small amount of base damage per level.
- (High ability damage and ability card scaling!)
“tanks” were too tanky and “DPS-ers” were too DPS-y. In order to repair some of these issues we’ve changed up some of our numbers in regards to basic attack damage and effective health.
the average time to kill has been increased. Targets will die more slowly.
